A Valued Member of the Community
Our Story
In the early 1990s, Beach Meadows School closed, and the building was turned over to the municipality. A group of visionary community members saw an exciting future for the empty school, and in 1994, the Seaside Recreation and Community Centre Association was formed and took possession of the old school for the price of $1. The Association is both a provincially registered not-for-profit organization under the Nova Scotia Societies Act and a federally registered charity. It can therefore offer tax receipts for donations.
The Seaside Centre is a valuable community asset that is run by volunteers. We offer many events to keep the community engaged, as well as renting out the facility to others for their special events and social gatherings. In addition to serving as a community hub, the Seaside Centre provides essential services like a free potable drinking water fill station, free Wi-Fi, a playground, a basketball court, voting facilities for elections, immunization clinics, and community mailboxes. This spring, the Seaside Centre will become a comfort centre for the surrounding communities.
Our Mission Statement
We provide and sustain an inclusive space where social, recreational, and educational programs and services are offered, to enhance the quality of life in our community.
Our Vision
We contribute to the well-being of our community through social connection, leisure opportunities, and sustaining our space and shore, so that Beach Meadows and surrounding communities are a vibrant, welcoming and supportive place to live, work, and play.

Finances
Donations account for a large portion of the Seaside Centre’s revenue and we are truly appreciative of our donor’s continued support. In addition to the money raised to “keep the lights on,” the Seaside Centre’s Board also raised grant money for some needed capital expenditures, such as the new generator, which will enable it to become a comfort centre.
The Seaside Centre must continue to raise money to keep the building and grounds maintained, safe, secure, and provide events and activities to serve the community. It is the responsibility of the Seaside Centre’s board to spend that money in a way that aligns with our mission, vision, and legal obligations and to protect it for future generations.
